Project: Tactical Airsoft Vehicle
My Fathers Ford Explorer XLT |
As the title states above we here at the Ghost Operators Airsoft team are having a project on the horizon and that is to have a transport/tactical vehicle for both local games and MilSim events. I mean every team wishes to have a good proper vehicle when it comes to having a set vehicle and all, at least that was issue back in 2010 to 2011 for us as a team because of availability and for the sheer fact being that we had to use my fathers vehicle. But now here we are in 2016, with the team getting back together slowly but surely, with that being said a vehicle at the start of our "getting back together" thing comes along will have a vehicle to use right off the bat.
Ghost Hawks Truck |
When this conversation/idea kicked off, it was between me and Ghost Hawk, on a cool idea for a vehicle and with Ghost Hawk sending me pics of vehicle's up for sale and auction on the Government Auction website. From there it was a matter of discussing and wondering what we could do, and then some days after I sent him a picture of a OLD Civilian Jeep (CJ) 3B, which was yellow and of a Black Jeep Wrangler YJ. both being that it could drive and both had the price tag of 3,500.00 dollars, granted we had to buy it and that's not really something I wanted to do, nor do I believe the team wanted to do that either. So that's when Hawk mentioned my Jeep that I have is a 1974 CJ 5, 3-speed manual transmission. Now it would be awesome have in regards to recce/surveillance for quick get in and quick get out. But my jeep needs a lot of work before you could even begin to use and have custom work on it for Airsoft. After discussing Hawk then mentioned his truck which is a 1992 Dodge D250 Truck which has a It's a 5 9 Cummins turbo diesel engine, and also a automatic which makes beast some what a better option by the simple fact number one; that its a truck meaning heck of a lot of room. Number two; its ready to be put with customization unlike my Jeep it needs repairs before it can even start the custom work we want to have with a tactical vehicle. Number three; I hate to say this but when it comes to climbing or say hard core off roading to get to hard to reach areas a automatic is where its at. Where as a manual is harder because if you were to do hard core off roading or rock crawling you could damage the vehicle if you slip the clutch. Yes a manual can do rock crawling or trail riding and some can outperform a automatic in a lot of areas but automatic is most recommended. Back on topic though, so yeah the truck was a no brainer when it came down to it (hurts as a Jeep fan to say that).
Now as for modification or custom work the whole team has shared their input on it whether that be small input or a of it comes down to having something that can achieve three goals.
Ghost Leads Jeep |
Goal 1: Carry enough of equipment that being Gear, Airsoft, weapons, BB's, food and any other equipment that we may need for any amount of time either that be a local game, a 24 hour Operation or even a seven day event.
Goal 2: Go Anywhere! No this doesn't mean go the damn moon or fly in the blue skies. NO, I mean go offroad whether that be the sands dunes of California or the lovely terrain of Moab Utah, through rain, through mud, through snow, the terrain shouldn't matter, this vehicle should go just about anywhere.
Goal 3: Have fun with it! Like if we want to use it for other then the purpose of Airsoft then we should be able too. If we wanna go mudding! Or Rock crawling! Way I look at it with me with my Jeep and I look at it as well with a Truck; Jeep=fun then also Truck=fun.
So there you have it folks I mean this is what we are going to be working on in the near future. Should be a lot of fun and a interesting time making this into something really cool. Alrighty everyone this is another entry for the record books. See ya all around this is Ghost Lead out.
Great info! Very simple and easy…nobody can explain as interesting as this. I appreciate your time and effort on making things simple and easily understandable. I have bookmarked your site...
